We applaud the decision by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to pass a resolution demanding a permanent ceasefire in the ongoing genocide in Palestine. We know that this vote carries a lot of weight with it and will be felt not only by other cities throughout our country who may be energized to also pass ceasefire resolutions but also our nation’s capital, where Congress has the power to stop the genocide of Palestinian people.
Over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military and Palestinians in Gaza are dealing with the threat of being cut off from their means of survival every single day. With yesterday’s vote by the Board of Supervisors to support a permanent ceasefire, our city has sent a message to the world that we stand strongly against genocide, the loss of innocent lives as a result, and the use of our taxpayer dollars to fund it all. The SF Supervisors who supported the ceasefire resolution – Supervisors Dean Preston, Connie Chan, Hillary Ronen, Shamann Walton, Aaron Peskin, Myrna Melgar, Joel Engardio, Ahsha Safai – have ensured that our city uses its cultural power and political voice to push our federal elected officials to get us one step closer to an end to this heartbreaking loss of life.
